Father-son rivalry heats up as ASU vs.Stanford game approaches

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Saturday's big college football game at Sun Devil Stadium between ASU and Stanford has one Valley family divided.

Call it a friendly rivalry between father and son.

Phoenix attorney Bob Boatman and his son Matt have been doing a lot of trash-talking this week.

Bob Boatman went to Stanford and even played baseball there with NFL legend John Elway.

But Matt is an ASU graduate who would like nothing more than for his beloved Sun Devils to upset Stanford in Saturday's Pac-12 championship game.

And what big game would be complete without a friendly wager?

"I have to dress up as a tree to work on Monday if ASU loses," Matt Boatman said. "If he loses, he has to dress up as Sparky, with the little mustache. I'll make him wear spandex and maybe do pushups in the office."

"I don't want to beat up on my son too much," Bob Boatman said. "I know it's been very hard on him. Stanford beat down ASU as badly as they did the first time they played. I know it will be just as hard on him Saturday night."

Most of Boatman's law office is rooting for Matt, hoping for an ASU win.
