LINDALE, TX (KLTV) -

Many of us have thought, "I could do better if I was the boss." Maybe we've said it.

Well, a Lindale High School student got to try that one on for size when she became "Principal for a Day".

We went along as she shadowed Principal Casey Neal.

Generally speaking, buying your way to the top is not a good idea, but in this case it's actually benefiting the school district. It's not a permanent thing, anyway.

Freshman Kaitlyn Dockery got quite a promotion for a price, but she had a feeling it would be more than just chatting with people.

"I don't think there really is an easy part. You have to enforce all the rules and sometimes that means you have to be the bad guy in a situation. But still you have to know the students are going to respect you in everything you do," Kaitlyn said.

Are there any policy changes on the horizon?

"I don't think so. I think we have a great school here, and all of our rules are great. I mean without rules we would be crazy," Kaitlyn observed.

A friend of Kaitlyn's family bought the position at an auction benefiting Lindale Independent School District's Education Foundation just so Kaitlyn could:

"Check on all the teachers to make sure they were doing everything right," Kaitlyn explained.

She is the principal. She would know best.

"This morning I checked for dress code," Kaitlyn recalled.

And she had to bust friends; which takes us back to that rule thing. She seems to have the right attitude about the whole thing.

"You shouldn't think of it as being a boss, you should think of it as being a leader," Kaitlyn relayed.

She may not really have all the power or responsibility, but she does have swinging a lanyard full of keys down pat.

Lindale High School will soon hold another fund-raising auction, this time to act as superintendent.
