After record-breaking cold, warmer weather is coming

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

After several mornings and nights in the 30s, the Valley is finally going to see warmer weather by tomorrow.

Temperatures in the Phoenix metro area dipped into the low 30s this morning but temperatures will rebound a bit by the afternoon with highs in the low 60s. The normal high for this time of year is 66 degrees.

The Grand Canyon hit a record low temperature yesterday with minus 23 degrees. Bellemont set a record low of minus 14 and Williams with three degrees below zero.

A new record low temperature was also set in northern Arizona with minus 10 degrees on Monday. The previous record was minus 5, set back in 2009.

In Prescott on Monday, the record low of 10 degrees was tied with the previous record.

Temperatures didn't drop as much as they could have this morning because of some clouds streaming over the Valley because of a low pressure system moving onshore in Baja California.

The system even brought some sprinkles this morning across southern Arizona.

Another weak system will move across the state tomorrow. This cloud cover will help keep temperatures out of the 30s during the overnight hours.

Wednesday will bring slightly warmer temperatures into the mid-60s. By Thursday and Friday overnight lows will stay in the mid-40s.

The weather will continue to warm up into the weekend. Temperatures will be pushing 70 degrees by Saturday and Sunday. Expect blue skies by Saturday.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
