Phoenix police arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of stabbing another man to death during a fight early Tuesday morning.
Francisco Gutierrez was booked into jail on suspicion of second-degree murder in the death of Alec Imus, Phoenix Officer James Holmes said.
Holmes said Gutierrez and his girlfriend went to a home near 34th Avenue and Citrus Way about 12:45 a.m. Holmes said one of the residents of the home was an ex-boyfriend of Gutierrez's girlfriend.
Gutierrez intended on getting into a fight with the ex-boyfriend when Imus, 25, stepped in and was stabbed during the confrontation, Holmes said. Gutierrez and his girlfriend fled.
Imus was taken to a local hospital by friends and later died.
Several people were in the home at the time of the stabbing, Holmes said.
Gutierrez was later found, questioned and arrested by detectives.
