NOGALES, AZ (CBS5) -

A man has been arrested for attempting to smuggle nearly 1,900 pounds of drugs into the U.S. on a shipment of Mexican squash.

The suspect, a 40-year-old man from Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, was stopped Monday at the Port of Nogales for an additional inspection of the Freightliner tractor-trailer he was driving, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

After a K-9 alerted authorities to drugs inside the shipment, officers found three pallets of marijuana worth nearly $943,000.

The man, who has not been identified, was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
