LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

Longview police are looking for two individuals suspected of stealing credit cards from unlocked cars, while unsuspecting parents drop their children off at daycare.

Police have obtained security footage from a theft at one daycare last week, showing an individual open and reach into the victim's car.

Amanda Pope said quickly after that incident on December 4, the suspects had racked up more than $1,400 worth of fraudulent charges. But it wasn't until lunch that Pope realized her wallet, along with six credit cards, her social security card, and her driver's license were all gone.

"I reached in my purse for something and I said 'oh my god, guys, my wallet's missing'," Pope said. "Me being me, I thought I hit a bump and it fell out in my car, but I said 'well I'll just check my account and double check just to make sure nothing happened'. I looked at my account and it was zero and all my money was transferring from my savings to my checking, because they were spending so much money."

Pope then quickly canceled all of her cards, but later in the day, the suspects made another attempt to use the cards at a different store in the Longview mall. That time, the card was declined.

"They went to make a purchase for $244 and it was declined," Pope said. "[The suspect] said, ‘It's ok, I have another one,' and when she reached in for another one, somewhat of 15 cards fell out."

Police said they have at least four locations where the suspects were caught on camera, using the cards fraudulently. Even though Pope will eventually recoup all of her money, she said she is still frustrated about the entire ordeal.

"Why would you do something like that to somebody at Christmas?" she said. "Like I said, I have a two year old. Not only can I not go shopping for him because I don't have cards, but I've got other people that I still need to buy for. And I have to wait to get the $1400 back. It has just ruined it for me."

Longview police said the best way to avoid falling victim to similar crimes is to make sure all bags are moved into the trunk, whether they are empty or not. Police said sometimes thieves will break car windows, even if they aren't sure the bag has anything in it, looking for valuables.

Pope's case remains under investigation. Longview Police are asking for the public to contact them with any information.
