PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Richard Chrisman, who was accused of murder in an on-duty shooting three years ago, pleaded guilty Wednesday morning to manslaughter charges as part of a plea agreement.

Chrisman entered the plea in Maricopa County Superior Court on Wednesday.

As a result of the plea, Chrisman avoids a retrial for second-degree murder in the on-duty shooting death of Daniel Rodriguez in October of 2010.

The same jury that was hung on the second-degree murder charge convicted Chrisman of aggravated assault and animal cruelty in the same case.

Sentencing is set for 1:30 p.m. Dec. 20 before Judge Warren Granville

Sources say Chrisman will face seven to 14 years in prison as part of the plea.
