ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Angelina County deputies have caught the suspect who allegedly made the mistake of breaking into the wrong house Thursday afternoon. The home owner used a shotgun to defend herself, hitting the suspect and possibly his car.

According to Angelina County Sheriff Greg Sanchez, the suspect is Cody Everett Barnhill, 33.

Sanchez said they received a 911 call Thursday night that someone at a La Quinta Inn in Clute, Texas was suffering from gunshot wounds.

When officials arrived, they confirmed that it was indeed the suspect from the burglary earlier that day.

According to Sanchez, Barnhill was air lifted to Herman Memorial Hospital in Houston.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 or 4 p.m. Thursday at a residence in the 5800 block of FM 2251. Angelina County Sheriff Greg Sanches said the home owner, a woman, was outside feeding her cattle when she went back inside and found that a white male had broken into her home and was trying to steal some of her property.

Sanches said, at this time, the details of what happened are still sketchy. However, the woman somehow grabbed a shotgun from inside her residence and shot the suspect. Authorities don't know where the man was hit by the shotgun blast or how bad his injuries are.

The suspect then fled the home and jumped into a white Toyota Corolla with no hubcaps. Sanches said the man was last seen heading south on FM 2251.
