GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

There are more questions than answers surrounding a fatal car crash Monday involving an undercover Maricopa County sheriff's deputy.

The deputy survived, but the other driver did not.

John Harding, 63, was killed Monday afternoon when his vehicle was struck by a Chevrolet suburban being driven by MCSO Deputy Sean Pearce.

Harding was making a left turn on to 59th Avenue, south of Northern Avenue, when he was hit.

Glendale police said they would not release details of the crash until the investigation is completed.

Harding's wife, Nohemi Harding, told CBS 5 News that she would like some answers about her husband's death.

Witnesses on the scene told CBS 5 News that the deputy appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed.

Nohemi Harding told CBS 5 News her husband was a kind, good-hearted man who didn't deserve what happened to him.

She said he spent a lot of time growing vegetables in their backyard garden and cooking for the family.

In fact, John Harding was planning to cook dinner Monday night, but never made it home from a quick trip to a nearby Walmart.

"I'm going to miss him so much," Nohemi Harding said. "He's never going to come back through that door. I was waiting for him to make that noise he makes when he opens the door with the key."

The 63-year-old U.S. Army veteran leaves behind six children, 10 grandchildren and his wife of 24 years.

Harding said her husband was always supportive, even when she suggested recently to open her own business.

"I like flowers. I like to bake cookies," Nohemi Harding said. "He wanted me to do these things."

Harding said her son has already decided that he'll be the one to keep his dad's garden going.

"To keep his memory going, that's important," Nohemi Harding said.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
