Lufkinites try their luck at mega millions

Lottery tickets were printing non stop Tuesday night as many east Texans are trying their luck at becoming a mega millionaire. Tuesday night, the mega millions jackpot was worth $636 million. East Texas News found out why so many tested their luck at the second largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.

"Everybody fantasizes what it's going to be like to win," Mike Haney said.

The mega millions jackpot has reached a near record high of $636 million.

"It's crazy. That's a lot of money," Donna Jones said.

Gary Letney bought more than a dozen tickets on his way home from work Tuesday night. If he is a winner, the cash won't belong to only him.

"We're going to split the pot with my sister-in-law and father-in-law,' Letney said.

East Texans who play the lottery often said the more mega million tickets that are sold, the better someone's chance to have the 5 number combination to win plus the winning megaball number.

"Some people are not going to play anyway," Haney said. "I mean the odds are pretty bad when trying to hit the lottery. But like they say somebody is going to hit it; one person will be lucky. So, if you've got an extra dollar or two go ahead and try it."

Whether you spend a dollar, or two, or even hundreds some have a reason to pick certain numbers, while others choose to go the quick pick route.

Many have a plan on how they would spend their millions.

"There are a lot of people that I know that need a lot of help," Jones said. "It would be a tremendous blessing I think for whoever wins no matter where they are."

If you happen to purchase a mega millions ticket but missed those lucky numbers, you can always take your ticket to any store that sells lottery tickets. Place the ticket under the scanner and see if you were one of the lucky winners Tuesday night.
