TUCSON, AZ (CBS5) -

A small plane was forced to land in the desert in a remote area of southern Arizona near Interstate 19 when it ran out of gas.

The Cessna 182, its pilot and two passengers landed safely and were waiting on fuel to be able to take off again, according to a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesperson.

The area south of Tucson was not very accessible, the spokesperson said.
