From the KLTV 7 Stormtracker Weather Center: Severe storms possible Saturday in East Texas

Posted: Updated:
EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - A complex weather system will develop and move towards East Texas this weekend bringing with it a good chance of thunderstorms, some of which could be severe. At this time the main threat appears to be strong gusty winds with an isolated tornado possible. The mostly likely time for showers and storms to move through the area will be during the first half of Saturday with drier air moving in during the late afternoon hour.

Right now an upper level storm system is spinning across the desert southwest. This system will move towards west Texas tomorrow. At the same time a cold front will drift into East Texas and stall across our northern counties. To the north of this front temperatures will mainly be in the 50s. To the south of this front temperatures will once again warm into the 70s.

An area of low pressure at the surface will develop along the front Friday night and move northeast on Saturday. It is along and just south of this low where we could see some strong thunderstorms. Winds just off the surface will be around 60 miles per hour so any stronger storm will be able bring very strong wind gusts to the surface. In addition to strong gusty winds an isolated tornado is possible as well.

The greatest threat for severe weather will be along and just south of where the front stalls. Right now that appears to be across the I-20 corridor area of East Texas.
