LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - "Duck Dynasty's"Phil Robertson has been taken off the air for his comments about homosexualityand African Americans.
The controversy has nowlaunched into a nationwide debate with fans and politicians weighing in.
"PhilRobertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana,"Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said. "The politically correct crowd is tolerantof all viewpoints, except those they disagree with. I don't agree with quite abit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV. In fact, come to thinkof it, I find a good bit of it offensive. But I also acknowledge that this is afree country and everyone is entitled to express their views."
Last week Peppard Autoplexin Nacogdoches bought Robertson's old truck at an auction in Dallas that theyhope to sale to another "Duck Dynasty" fan. Now they are coming to the defenseof the duck commander.
"We think the wholecontroversy is pretty silly, Spence Peppard said. "We love "Duck Dynasty."
"I don't think Phil'slife is going to be effected," Tyler Peppard said. " Phil said he wanted toreturn to the old days, and I bet he will do that."
"You can't havepeople saying , 'oh we can say anything we can say, but you can't say this,"Chris Peppard said.
It's no secret that thefamily promotes Christianity on the show. Pastors are coming to the defense ofPhil and agreeing with Phil that homosexuality is a sin.
"I cannot apologizefor what the bible states clearly in several passages," Central Church ofChrist pastor Marshall Coffey said. "I think that is what Phil would say andwhy he made such a remark."
"I understand whypeople are offended, but they are not offended by the words that Phil Robertsonspoke," First Baptist Church of Lufkin pastor, Andy Pittman said. "They areoffended by a new cultural definition of the word tolerance."
There were however severalpeople who did find Robertson's remarks out of line.
"Some people were bornin the world that way, and that is just the way they are," Betrice Cardwellsaid.
"I think anybodyshould know that that is something you should censor and not bring up," MikkiArnold said.
"A&E has toprotect their company if anyone is making a statement like that against theirviews," Katie Kimmey said.
Only time will tell if theduck commander can weather the storm.
