MOUNT PLEASANT, TX (KLTV) -
Woody Wilkerson was in the first U.S. Airborne Unit shipped to England early in 1942 and the first to carry out combat drops behind enemy lines during the invasion of North Africa.

Wilkerson was awarded a Silver Star for pulling a paralyzed man out of his downed plane although he was wounded in the shoulder and had both ear drums ruptured. He was wounded a second time during a night patrol behind enemy lines.

At the age of 96, Wilkerson jokes that he has so much metal in him, he has to strip down to his shorts to get through airport metal detectors.
