Two Angelina County men were involved in a head-on collision Friday night on State Highway 103 West. The Texas Department of Public Safety said both men were pronounced dead on the scene.

DPS said Richard Luce, a 50-year-old Pollok resident was driving a 1991 Chevrolet truck westbound on 103. According to DPS, Luce was attempting to pass a slower vehicle and hit 20-year-old Colten Lawrence of Lufkin head-on. Lawrence was driving eastbound on 103 in a 1993 Toyota pickup. According to DPS trooper Tamela Snider, both trucks caught fire upon impact.

Snider said Luce's passenger, Edward Basham, was taken to a Lufkin hospital to be treated for possible injuries.

The double fatality was investigated by Snider. Several different agencies and personnel helped work the scene of the accident.

State Highway 103 was shut down for several hours until the scene was cleared.
