Suspect runs from police after allegedly choking and restraining girlfriend

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Nacogdoches Police Department are searching for a potential suspect in an assault case that happened in the 3000 block of Pearl Street in Nacogdoches on Saturday.

Patrol Sergeant Brent Handy says officers were dispatched to the residence around 2:47 p.m. Saturday after a woman dialed 911 claiming she had been assaulted by her live in boyfriend.

Handy says when officers arrived to the scene they learned the alleged assault had occurred 30 to 45 minutes prior to the female calling 911. According to the police report, the woman says her boyfriend physically assaulted her by choking her.

Handy says under Texas Law if a person impedes breathing on a family member or relative the charges are upgraded to a felony 3. He says the female was able to get free and grab a telephone when her boyfriend allegedly restrained her telling her if she called the police he would come back and hurt her. The suspect then fled the residence.

Handy says he cannot reveal any names or identification at this time because it is a pending investigation. But he says the suspect is facing a felony 3 obstruction or retaliation charge, a felony 3 assault charge, a misdemeanor unlawful restraint charge and a misdemeanor interference with emergency telephone call charge.
