Proud of East Texas: Merritt's "Tater House"

A.P. And Susie Merritt have turned a 1903 "Tater House," originally built to store sweet potatoes, into a rustic, unique mansion.

When the Merritts bought the property just outside Kilgore twenty years ago, they found the inside of the Tater House in good condition.

They turned it at first into a party room and then decided to make it their home. Over the years, the 1,500 square foot structure has grown into more than 6,000 square feet of living space.
