LUFKIN, TX (News Release) -

Joel Sartlore, contributor to National Geographic, visited the Ellen Trout Zoo Sunday to photograph Bay Duikers (a small African antelope species), blackbuck Antelope, and Whitetail deer for inclusion in one of his projects called The Photo Ark.

The goal of the Photo Ark is to do portraits of every species in captivity in order to get the public to become aware of  the extinction process. All of his subjects are photographed against black or white curtains in order to focus attention on the animals. To date, he has photographed nearly 3,200 species in 180 zoos and aquariums around the world. You can view Joel's photos in this collection.

The Ellen Trout Zoo opened in 1967 and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
