Lufkin's Kurth Library extends amnesty program

Posted: Updated:
LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

The Kurth Memorial Library was supposed to stop their recent amnesty program on Dec. 31, but decided to go ahead and give a little more time on the project and let people with unpaid fines have until this weekend to get those fines taken care of.

"Our amnesty has been very successful, Library Director Lorraine Simoneau said. "Since we began it in December, we have forgiven more than $4,500 in fines and fees."

Patrons wanting to take advantage of the offer have until 1 pm on Jan.4.

 How to get amnesty:

1. By returning any overdue materials (undamaged and in good condition), no matter how old. Patron's should bring in a current driver's license or current utility bill so that we can update their library card.

2. By coming in to renew their library cards... no matter how long it's been. Please bring in a current driver's license  or current utility bill.

3. Even with damaged or lost materials patrons can take advantage of this amnesty. For each damaged or lost item a patron pays for we will waive the overdue and processing fees.
