Truck collides with horse on Hwy 69, North of Lufkin

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A truck suffered major damage after it hit a horse earlier tonight on highway 69, North of Lufkin around 5 p.m.

According to Casey Brooks, the horse could be seen walking along the side of the roadway and as Brooks approached, the horse ran into the road.

"I knew when I hit him, that it hurt him bad," Brooks said. "It crunched the front of my truck up and lifted it off the ground. The horse is hurt."

Brooks and another driver would stop and help the horse to its feet and help move it out of the road. Central Volunteer Fire Department had the southbound lanes of the roadway shutdown for almost an hour while they tried to clear the scene.

The horse was examined by several veterinarians and technicians, but it was unclear at the scene what internal injuries the horse may have suffered.

Officials on scene were able to locate the owner of the horse and walk the horse back into its stall.

No citations are being handed out at this time to either Brooks or the owner of the horse.
