TERRY COUNTY, TX (KCBD) -

A principal and basketball coach with Paducah ISD was arrested on Friday, charged with multiple counts of indecency with a child and one charge of sexual assault of a child.

Terry County Sheriff Larry Gilbreath says Jay Cantrell, 43, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. and is now out on $200,000 bond.

A statement on the Paducah ISD home page says:

"Mr. Cantrell (HS boys' basketball coach and principal) has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations brought forth by students. This is standard procedure for Paducah ISD. Superintendent Troy Parton requests that everyone let the authorities handle the investigation before drawing conclusions. Mr. Parton continues to ask for prayers for the school and community for guidance in this situation."

Cantrell was arrested in Terry County but the charges originated in Cottle County.

Superintendent for PISD, Troy Parton, says the school's Board of Trustees will be meeting on Monday night to take possible action to terminate Cantrell.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Daniel Hawthorne says if anyone has information regarding this investigation, call the Texas Rangers at (940) 937-2548.
