Broaddus New Year's Day fire still under investigation

BROADDUS, TX (KTRE) -

The cause of a fire on County Road 4600 in Broaddus on New Year's day is still under investigation according to Broaddus Volunteer Fire chief, Gary Williams.

Sandra and Eddie Bonilla were asleep when they awoke to find their mobile home full of black smoke.

According to Williams, January 2nd the home caught fire again after the propane tank got hot and the cap popped off, like it is supposed to for a safety precaution, leaking gas causing the property to catch fire, said Williams.

Fortunately no one was injured in the blaze.

Broaddus Volunteer Fire Department, Pineland VFD and Powell Town VFD all responded to the fire.

Bonilla says they lost all their belongings but the community has really stepped up to help them out. Red Cross was at their home within an hour after the fire, according to Bonilla. She says right now they just have the clothes on their backs and a church friend is letting them stay in their home without rent until they can find a new place to live.

If you would like to help the family you can contact the Bonilla's daughter, Sandy Huffman at 936-201-2810 or there is an account set up at Shelby Savings Bank under Sandra and Eddie Bonilla.
