ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - One man is dead and another driver is hospitalized after a two-vehicle wreck Wednesday night in Angelina County.

Emergency crews were dispatched around 8 p.m., near the intersection of State Highway 7 West and U.S. Highway 69 North.

One of the drivers, 22-year-old Derius Bolton, was killed in the wreck, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Trooper David Flowers said Bolton was driving a 2002 Honda Accord eastbound on State Highway 7 behind a pickup and tried to pass it in a no-passing zone. Flowers said he saw headlights from the other direction and hit the brakes to get in the right lane and swerved too much. He then overcorrected and skidded right into the path of Karen Coulter, 43, of Pollok, who was driving a 2006 Ford 500.

Coulter was treated and released from a Lufkin hospital with minor injuries. Bolton and Coulter were wearing seatbelts.

Bolton was a pre-engineering student at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, according to his Facebook profile.

Eastbound and Westbound traffic began flowing again around 11 p.m. after the scene was cleared.

The Angelina County Sheriff's Office, Lufkin and Central fire departments, and Texas DPS all responded.

Further details on the cause of the crash and those involved are expected to be released later Thursday.
