PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Just when you think that children are too young to understand the world and how they can make a difference, you stumble across a little girl like Addyson Delpier.

She had a simple and sweet wish for Christmas that had nothing to do with gifts for herself and her idea has brought an entire community together.

In many ways, Addyson is a normal, sweet, 7-year-old girl, but when her mother asked her what she wanted for Christmas she proved to be extraordinary.

"My mom asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and then I said, 'All I want for Christmas is shoes to give to kids who don't have any,'" Addyson Delpier said.

Addyson set a goal of collecting 100 pairs.

"When we started it, I honestly thought that we might end up with a couple dozen shoes, and I was praying that we would reach Addyson's goal and clearly, that was just blown out of the water," her mother, Amber Delpier-Quinn said.

Addyson advertised her wish at her school, Parkridge Elementary, and on Facebook where she caught the attention of Edris Klucher.

"I've never seen this type of compassion in a 7-year-old and I was very impressed by that," Klucher said.

Klucher was so impressed she started collecting shoes of all sizes, new and old. So did Addyson's classmates and before they knew it, they didn't have 100, they had 748 pairs to cover the feet of children and adults in need all over the world.

"I thought that it was amazing,"

Klucher recently surprised Addyson Delpier with something other than shoes.

"I wanted to nominate you for Pay It Forward and I'm so thrilled to tell you that Pay It Forward accepted my recognition and I'm here to present you, from KPHO and Pay It Forward, $500 to help in shipping the shoes or taking them wherever they need to go," Klucher said.

"This whole experience has really forever changed us as a family. People have given us words of kindness and love that we don't even know. It's just really amazing," Delpier-Quinn said.

Shipping the shoes to Soles 4 Souls, a nonprofit that clothes people in need, costs about a dollar a shoe. But that's not scaring Addyson. She wants her grand total to grow even larger.

"I want to help more people that don't have anything," Addyson said.

She's showing that one person, no matter how small, can make all the difference.
