NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A 25-year-old Nacogdoches man accepted a 12-month pre-trial diversion Friday for causing bruises to a 2-year-old's bottom in July 2012.
Joshua Allen Godsey appeared in Judge Campbell Cox's 145 Judicial District Court Friday morning.
A pre-trial diversion basically means that there was no conviction in the case. If Godsey stays out of trouble for the full 12-month period, he will have no criminal record. However, if he does get in trouble with the law, he will be re-indicted and a judge will issue a sentence for the state-jail felony charge of injury to a child.
According to the report, the child's grandmother reported the injury on July 14 after she found bruising on the child's bottom. The boy had been staying overnight with Godsey, who is the boyfriend of the child's mother.
Investigators took the evidence to a grand jury, who indicted Godsey.
It is not clear exactly how the child suffered the injuries.
