Freedom Fighters: Percy Werner

Percy Werner met and married his wife Ruth when he was stationed at Camp Fannin ,outside Tyler, Texas. Tyler was to become his permanent home, but not before he had faced an enemy across the ocean.

Werner was sent to Europe in 1944 as an infantry replacement, but was assigned as an engineer to the 79th Division, where helped build pontoon bridges across major European waterways.

Although he was never wounded, he came close, narrowly missing a land mine explosion which killed two of his friend.
