LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Texas Association of Fairs and Events awarded the Angelina County Texas State Forest Festival Committee with honors in 15 categories over the weekend including the Best Overall award.
On Monday, the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce highlighted the successes and recognized the volunteers in a community meeting held at the Chamber of Commerce's office.
Jerry Huffman, the President and CEO of the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce, says this is definitely an exciting win.
"We're very excited. Anytime we go to competition like this and go heads up with festival events across the State of Texas—it's a great State, so we're very proud when we win," Huffman said.
Huffman says the win shows how committed and proud Angelina County is of its forestry.
"I think it says a lot about our area and I think it says a great deal about this part of Texas. We're certainly a very important part of Texas and we like to show people that. We have a huge heritage that's related to the Forest Industry and I think the Texas State Forest Festival intent is to promote that and this is kind of exciting to be recognized for that effort," Huffman said.
Huffman says they will begin to brainstorm new event ideas for this year's festival, especially since it will mark its 30th anniversary.
Categories of recognition for the committee were:
Best Overall award for festival under 50,000 attendance: Best Newspaper ad, Best Promotional Post, Best Newsletter, Best Website, Best Online Advertising, Best New Media Platform, Best Volunteer Program and Best New Promotion.
Second place awards were for best program/Brochure/Flyer, Best Newspaper Insert/Supplement, Best Media Guide/Press Kit, Best Miscellaneous Multi-Page Materials, and Best Mascot.
