East Texas Food Bank receives new car from Toyota's '100 Cars for Good' program

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The East Texas Food Bank now has a new way to travel across the 26 counties they serve every day. A 2014 Toyota Prius was given to the East Texas Food Bank Tuesday as part of Toyota's annual 100 Cars For Good philanthropy program.

"We know the East Texas Food Bank does a lot of good for East Texas and it's a fantastic opportunity to be able to reward them back with something that's going to help them do a better job for East Texans," said general sales manager Scott Reed.

The non-profit was selected as a winner by East Texans through public voting on Facebook. The food bank was the only winner in East Texas chosen from other agencies around the United States.

"This car is going to be used to travel all across East Texas to help us establish new points of services, educate the public in some of our under-serviced communities so we can get new agencies and new programs established," said East Texas Food Bank executive director Dennis Cullinane. "We're just very, very fortunate to have the help of this community to help get this vehicle for us to do the job. It means a lot to secure this prize."

Cullinane says he'll be driving the car out of the Toyota showroom on Tuesday. The first stop will be to serve the Longview community.
