Restaurant Report Card: Romano's Macaroni Grill, Bonefish Grill

Posted: Updated:
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

If you like to dine out, you'll love to know that CBS Atlanta's Adam Murphy is keeping a close eye on local restaurants again with his weekly Restaurant Report Card segment.

This week, Gwinnett County health inspectors grilled two popular grills located in the same shopping center.

Romano's Macaroni Grill at 1350 Scenic Highway in Snellville failed a surprise inspection with 66 points and a ‘U' for unsatisfactory.

Inspectors found mold debris on beverage nozzles at the soda stations. There was also mold forming on the tops of ice bin lids and Italian sausage was at an unsafe temperature. Murphy questioned management at the restaurant and they said everything had been resolved.  Romano's received 96 points and an 'A' on a reinspection.

Next door at 1350 Scenic Highway, Bonefish Grill scored just 68 points and a 'U' for unsatisfactory.

Inspectors witnessed an employee insert a dirty thermometer into a salmon filet on the grill. Plus, an employee picked up a wrapped piece of bread from the floor and placed it on a cutting board.

When questioned about their violations, a manager at the Bonefish Grill said, "I can't comment at all. I'd be more than happy to give you the number to our corporate office and you could speak to them."

So Murphy called corporate and they told us Bonefish Grill corrected all of the items and retrained their team.

Not all scores were low this week. In Cobb County, Golden Corral at 700 Barrett Parkway received 94 points and an 'A.' In Fulton County, Sweet Tomatoes at 6350 Peachtree Dunwoody Road scored a 96 and in DeKalb County, Subway at 5175 Buford Highway picked up a 97 and an ‘A.'

Last but not least, Antico Pizza at 1093 Hemphill Avenue in NW Atlanta received 100 points on a recent health inspection and was the featured restaurant of the week.
