Nacogdoches PD: armed burglars robbed home's occupants, tied them up

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

A Nacogdoches family is scared in their own home after a very frightening intrusion early Wednesday morning.

It happened around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning at a residence on Ridgewood Drive at Press Road, just off the South Loop.

Nacogdoches Police began the investigation immediately. The detectives were back on the scene at daylight.

Nacogdoches detectives searched for evidence in the vicinity of the Ridgewood home, while the victim was still visibly shaken by what he experienced just hours before.

The victim was understandably very scared and was reluctant to go on camera for an interview, but he did visit with East Texas News at length. He had red marks left on his wrist where he was tied up. And he said he was extremely scared to stay in his own home.

The Tyson employee describes how the household was awakened when two masked men armed with long guns came crashing through the door. They bound him and his sister. He spoke of how one armed burglar even shot through the wall yelling, 'I won't miss you next time, if you don't give me money."

The victim said all the while another woman who also living in the mobile home crouched in a back bedroom. Eventually, she was able to climb out a window and seek help.

"This is a very serious situation, and we take these home invasion-type burglaries, which is what the charge is right now, what it stands as is burglary of a habitation, but we take these very seriously and will investigate it very vigorously," said Sgt Greg Sowell, a spokesman for the Nacogdoches Police Department.

All of the victim's cash was taken. It was going to be used to buy prescriptions ordered by a doctor just yesterday.

This isn't the first burglary on Ridgewood. On December 27, the next door neighbor had guns and other property stolen, but he wasn't home at the time.

Undoubtedly, the residents are on edge as police continue the investigation.

Nacogdoches Police say the suspects are described as two younger black men. They were dressed in dark clothing with their faces covered. Anyone with information regarding the crime should call Nacogdoches Crime Stoppers at (936)560-INFO or send a tip to its Website.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
