LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Diboll woman has pleaded guilty to the excessive punishment of an 11-year-old child.

Angela Key, 34, accepted a three-year deferred adjudication sentence, meaning that if she successfully completes her probation, she will not have a felony on her record.

Prosecuting attorney Layne Thompson said a second count, which alleged Key choked the child, was dismissed due to a lack of evidence.

"So it came down to her spanking and slapping the child," Thompson said.

Thompson said the victim's mother approved of the plea bargain.

Key was arrested in December 2011 following the investigation into the child's injuries to his face, neck, buttocks and chest. Key was babysitting the child while his mother was at work.

As a condition of her probation, Key cannot babysit children. Since she is a parent, she will also have to attend anger management and parenting classes.
