LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin Police officers arrested two men Saturday after they tried to make a traffic stop on North Timberland Drive. One man was arrested on drug possession and firearm charges, and the other was arrested for outstanding warrants.

Derrie Dewind Scott, 51, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a third-degree felony charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, two state-jail felony charges - evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance, and multiple misdemeanor charges. Collectively, his bail was set at $9,000.

Carlos Dion Hayter, 40, of Lufkin, has already been released; he posted a $5,500 bail the same day he was arrested. He was arrested on an outstanding felony manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance warrant and seven outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

According to the police report, Scott was driving a Chevrolet van in the 2300 block of Timberland Drive when LPD officers tried to make a traffic stop on his vehicle at approximately 9:03 p.m. He allegedly tried to evade them with his vehicle and was stopped a short time later.

When the Lufkin Police searched Scott, they allegedly found that he was in possession of a small amount of cocaine and a Taurus .38 Special revolver.

Both men were arrested without further incident and transported to the Angelina County Jail.
