SFA track star breaks two of her previous records in two weeks

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

The record boards for the Stephen F. Austin Track and Field team are shattering one after another.

Track star Brarysheyia Simpson has broken two of her own school records that she set last year, within the past 2 weeks.

The junior recorded her new time this weekend in the 200 meters when she crossed the finish line in 24.11 seconds. Her previous record was 24.43 seconds.

Simpson then went on to beat her previous 60 meter dash record when she finished in 7.48 seconds. Her previous record was 7.54 seconds.

Simpson says she didn't expect the success so quickly.

"All I went into the race thinking about was working on what I've been working on and execute the race," said Simpson.

Simpson is quick to deflect the credit from herself.

"Before I ran that race I was just like, 'God do whatever it is You want to do. Do Your Will in me and hopefully Your Desires are my desires and that whatever we run today, I just want to glorify you through it all,'" said Simpson.

Simpson's next chance to possibly break her records again will be January 31, in Wichita, Kansas.
