GROVETON, TX (KTRE) - The Groveton School board accepted the resignation of former head football coach and Athletic Director Kevin Parker.
Parker resigned early last week. Parker had been the head coach for the last 5 years and lead the Indians to two playoff appearances. He had been with the district for 12 years.
Superintendent Don Hamilton would not comment on the resignation of Parker. Hamilton did say that the district is accepting applications for the position until jan.31.
Parker released a statement to KTRE before the meeting on Monday night.
"I would like to thank the Groveton community for the opportunity to work with some of the greatest kids over the past 12 years," Parker said. "Groveton was not only my home growing up, but it has become home to my own children. Although this situation was not my decision, I respect the way the system works and look forward to where God leads our family."
The school board also entered a closed session where they discussed the contract of Hamilton. After an hour long session, the board elected to extend the current three year contract by one year.
"My goal is to raise our students tests scores as I move forward with my contract," Hamilton said.
