OU resumes normal operations following reports of shooting

Posted: Updated:
NORMAN, OK (KLTV) - Authorities responded to reports of a shooting on the University of Oklahoma campus on Wednesday morning. After investigating, OU officials say authorities were unable to find evidence of gunfire on campus and no injuries were reported. Normal operations resumed just after noon, while authorities continued to check through Gould Hall, where the shooting was said to have happened.

The president of the university, David Boren, addressed students, telling them what was believed to be a gunshot was actually equipment malfunctioning.

A message on OU.edu urged students to shelter in place and avoid Gould Hall, which holds OU's College of Architecture around 11:24 Wednesday morning.

The school's newspaper says that a shot was reportedly heard around 11:20 a.m. at Gould Hall.

OU junior Doug Murray, a journalism student, says he was in a building near Gould Hall when students said they heard a muffled bang. SWAT teams arrived minutes later.
