Doctor at CCMC arrested for DUI, risk of injury

Posted: Updated:

A doctor at Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford was arrested Monday after police said she was involved in a hit-and-run while driving drunk with children in her vehicle.

Winsted police said they received word from several witnesses who said a vehicle pulled into a local gas station and hit an ice machine and a vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Winsted police issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) to surrounding towns about the incident, and Canton police said they found the vehicle and pulled it over on Route 44 a short time later.

Dr. Christine Cornachio, 50, of West Hartford, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and two counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Robert Fraleigh, director of Corporate Communications at CCMC, issued a statement Wednesday night and said, "We were notified of this incident late Tuesday afternoon. We are currently in the process of gathering information. It would be premature to make any further comment until we've completed this process."

Cornachio will appear in Hartford Superior Court next Wednesday on the DUI charge and next Thursday on the risk of injury charges.
