PHOENIX (CBS5) -

It was hard enough for a Phoenix family to learn their house had been burglarized, but it was even harder to accept the fact the burglars apparently stabbed the family dog multiple times while it was in its kennel crate Wednesday.

The unknown number of burglars found a samurai sword in the house and repeatedly stabbed the 3-year-old Shi Tzu while it was confined to its kennel, said Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

The family rushed the dog to a veterinarian after they found it about 3:30 p.m., but the dog had to be put down because of its injuries, Thompson said.

The house was maliciously ransacked and holes were punched in the wall and liquids from the refrigerator were thrown about the house, Thompson said. Electronic equipment and clothing were stolen, he said.

Detectives need help from the community in identifying and locating the suspect, Thompson said.

Anyone with information about the incident, suspect or suspects is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (480-948-6377) or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
