SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Two people are in the Smith County Jail on Thursday after a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper stopped their vehicle on Interstate 20 and found over $1.2 million worth of marijuana.

According to the Department of Public Safety, Trooper Glenn Davenport stopped a 2014 Ford Expedition with a Kansas license plate for following too closely behind another vehicle. After receiving permission to search the SUV, Trooper Davenport found multiple duffle bags containing 240 pounds of hydroponic marijuana.

Joseph Bridges, 33, and Kristian Watts, 44, are both in the Smith County Jail on charges of possession of marijuana, a second degree felony. They face up to 20 years in jail and a fine of no more than $10,000.

The suspects told authorities they were traveling from Santa Rosa, CA to Miami, FL.
