Juvenile Woden ISD student steals bus, winds up in ditch

Posted: Updated:

A juvenile student at Woden ISD allegedly stole a school bus from the district Monday morning. The bus was recovered a short time later.

Nacogdoches County Sheriff Jason Bridges said the school bus theft was not related to the hoax threat made against the school district Sunday evening.

"A juvenile student who does attend school there decided he would run away and steal a school bus," the press release stated. "He was arrested by the Precinct 4 Constable, David Stone. The bus was returned to Wooden ISD."

The school bus was located near Melrose on County Road 302. Stone said the student was acting on his own, and while he was driving the bus, he lost control and the vehicle slid into a ditch.

The investigation into the theft is still pending. The juvenile was released into his mother's custody.

Woden ISD consists of three campuses: Woden Elementary, Woden Junior High School, and Woden High School. The district's enrollment is 806 students, according to the Texas Education Agency.
