Crockett's Pineywoods Fine Arts Association will host performers from Malaysia

CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) -

Every year, the Pineywoods Fine Arts Association looks at bringing some of the best acts they can get to the Crockett Area, and next year they will be working with a very special program.

At Wednesday's Crockett Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon, it was announced that they will be part of a four city tour that over the next year will be hosting performers from Malaysia.

The events will be in music, film, and performing arts, and they will be showcasing the Muslim culture from the country.

In the Fall of 2014, the "Diplomats of Drum" will be coming to town for a week. In the winter, the area will host filmmaker Pete Teo, famous for his film "15Malaysia". In the spring of 2015, East Texans can enjoy the "Wayang Kuilt: The Shadow Play of Kelantan."

"This is a project about sharing culture not religion," tour manager Adam Perry said. "It's not about proselytizing or people coming into your town preaching about Islam. It's about people from Malaysia coming and singing their songs. It's about people coming from Malaysia and showing their films."

The program is being produced by Arts Midwest.
