Professional baseball player helps raise money for Hudson Baseball

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Hudson Baseball team was out Thursday night, trying to raise money for their program, thanks to Whataburger and a special professional baseball player that made it all possible.

Former Hudson baseball player and now first basemen for the San Francisco Giants Brandon Belt was at Whataburger in Lufkin tonight, to meet the community and help Hudson raise money for their baseball program.

From 5-8 p.m. Thursday evening, 25% of Whataburger's proceeds went to the program.

Although Belt graduated from Hudson in 2006, he still likes to be able to come back home.

"It feels great to be home. It's one of those things I definitely look forward to every year," said Belt. "I really love this area and I love the people around here. I grew up around these people and my family is here, my friends are here, so I really don't have any desire to leave just yet."

Belt coming back home doesn't go unnoticed in the kids eyes.

"It's pretty inspiring actually knowing you can go so far and still have a heart to come back to your home town and support us," said Hunter Harris, a Hudson Baseball.
