SHELBY COUNTY, TN -

(WMC-TV) – The community around Bolton High School is talking about the teacher and firefighter accused of having sex with teenagers. Though quiet outside the school, the halls had been murmuring for a week.

"It wasn't a surprise to anybody," said Bolton High senior Bradley Lufcy.

On Wednesday, a 17-year-old student told investigators she had been involved in a sexual relationship with Michael Lewis, 31, a teacher and assistant baseball coach at Bolton High School, according to an affidavit of complaint. According to the document, the teen told investigators she had also spent more than three nights with Lewis at his personal residence, in addition to have sex in his classroom.

"He was the coolest teacher I ever had. He was pretty cool. He was nice to everybody," added Lufcy

Shelby County Schools says he is off the job without pay pending the investigation. The photo of Lewis that was previously on the Bolton High website had been removed by mid-morning Friday.

"You don't mess with minors like that. It's wrong. It's morally wrong," noted parent Garry Boyd.

Lewis' roommate, 31-year-old Memphis firefighter Bryan Wilson, is also accused of having sex with a different 17-year-old girl at the house.

The Memphis Fire Department says Wilson is also suspended pending the investigation.

Neighbors cannot believe the news.

"It shocks me, shocks me," said next door neighbor Jennifer Corder.

While not familiar with Lewis because he had only moved in within the past year, Corder and other neighbors rave about Wilson.

"I was thinking that y'all were going to come do a report on some heroic act he did as a fireman," said Corder.

Lewis faces up to six years in prison if convicted, and Wilson faces up to four. Both men posted bond early this afternoon and are due in court Monday morning.

Tyrone Garner says Lewis was his son's coach.

"I'm not surprised," he said. "I had some interactions with him and he just did not seem right."

Garner says Lewis seemed to stay away from adults and spend more time with the students.

Lewis played baseball at the University of Memphis and Germantown High School.

It is not clear how investigators found out about the reported relationships with the two 17-year-old girls.
