Updated:

HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - A Houma woman was killed in a car crash over the weekend, according to a spokesman with the Houma Police Department.

It happened Sunday night around 11:30pm in the 3300 block of Bayou Black Drive in Houma.

Officers discovered a 2005 silver Cadillac Deville overturned and submerged in the bayou.

Upon being removed, officers discovered the body of a female driver inside the car.

The driver, identified as Leslie English, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say it appears she was traveling westbound on Bayou Black Drive and for unknown reasons veered off the roadway to the right.

The victim struck two trees, then traveled down and embankment at which time the car overturned and became submerged in the bayou.

English was unrestrained and alcohol is suspected. Blood test results are pending.
