Moss Point catching fire as basketball playoffs are ready to tip off

MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) -

Deadrick Bogard has taken over the Moss Point head coaching basketball reins, assisted by Melvin Booker.

Over the last ten games, the Tigers have reeled-off 8 wins and 2 losses, having posted 5 consecutive games under the win column.

Moss Point is now 14 and 13 and went undefeated in the Division 8-4A ranks with a perfect 10 and 0 record.

Bogard said,"We staying focused on what we have been doing. The kids are playing hard and we want to finish above .500 for the season and try to go undefeated in the district."

6-foot-5 senior Devin Booker, the top gun on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, is drilling the nets at a 32.8 points per game clip.

Devin, the son of assistant coach Melvin Booker, hasn't let his foot off the pedal, always giving a 100 percent.

"Me and my dad had a talk about this actually when I committed," stated Booker. "He told me to stay focused. We have bigger goals past high school but you still have to finish off strong and this is going to be the intro to college. One of my personal goals is to win the state championship and that's something I'm also working on."

In what ways has Devin, who signed with Kentucky, become a better basketball player when compared to last season?

Melvin Booker said,"He creates more off the bounce. That's something we have always worked on. He added,"Devin came here as a catch and shoot player and now he's created his own shot off the dribble."

Booker is the Tiger's main offensive weapon. Terreance Trussell, Derrick McMillan, Lateriss Brown and Marcus Watson are all netting over 6 points an outing. It's working and Moss Point has a mission that's not complete... make a run at the 4A State Championship.

Moss Point hooks up with Pascagoula Friday night at 7:30.
