John Besh featured chef at Wash DC luncheon

Updated:

WASHINGTON D.C. (WVUE) - A high level State Department luncheon being held Tuesday in Washington DC is being represented by both New Orleans and the state of Louisiana.  Mayor Mitch Landrieu is one of the invited guests for a luncheon in honor of French President Francois Hollande.

The luncheon is billed as one of the premiere events that the US State Department orchestrates.  Louisiana Chef John Besh, named one of the "Top 10 Best New Chefs in America" by Food and Wine Magazine was chosen to cater the event.

In a tweet sent out by Mayor Landrieu on Tuesday afternoon, Landrieu wrote, "#NOLA is on the global stage.@chefjohnbesh is the featured chef at special lunch for the President of France in DC!"

The luncheon is being held at the Department of State and was hosted by Vice-President Joe Biden. Secretary of State John Kerry will attend along with other dignitaries.

Mayor Landrieu says the visit from President Hollande celebrates the new era in United States and French relations.

While in the nation's capitol, Landrieu will also conduct meetings to advance New Orleans' murder reduction strategy as well as discuss development of the new North Terminal at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

Mayor Landrieu will return to New Orleans on Wednesday, February 12, 2014.
