POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff's Office arrested a 27-year-old Goodrich man on a sexual assault of a child charge in connection to allegations that he molested a 14-year-old girl on numerous occasions in the period from August 2012 to November 2013.

Phillip Clark Griffin is still being held in the Polk County Jail on a second-degree felony charge of sexual assault of a child.

A investigator with the Brazoria County Child Protective Services office contacted a PCSO investigator in November, who told the investigator the 14-year-old girl had made an outcry to her mother that Griffin had molested the girl at his home.

The affidavit stated that Griffin forced the girl to perform numerous sexual acts with him.

When the investigator interviewed Griffin on Feb. 6, he denied the allegations at first. Then, the investigator interviewed two of Griffin's relatives. Both relatives said they confronted Griffin about the alleged molestation, and that he admitted to the crime.

Griffin allegedly told one relative, "I'm sorry I did it. I don't know why it happened."
