Handicap accessible fishing pier now open at Cassels-Boykin Park

Special changes have cometo a popular East Texas fishing spot.

A new handicap accessiblefishing pier opened for the first time at Cassels-Boykins park in Zavalla.

The pier has specialrailing that allows for those in wheelchairs to be able to fish on the waterwith nothing hindering them.

The project was funded bymultiple sources and that is why so many say this is such a special project.

"So many placesaround the country have been closed, so to have a community, have a county,have so many groups come together to make this happen is absolutely a treasure,"U.S. Representative Louie Gohmert.

"I didn't bring myrod and reel today but it is going to be pretty quick," Lufkin resident JoeHarvard said.

County officials say theyhave researched the special pier and believe it to be the only one in the stateof its kind.
