PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A dog who mauled a 4-year-old boy Feb. 20 may face euthanasia, according to a court order received Thursday by Maricopa County Animal Care and Control.

A hearing is scheduled for March 13 at 8:30 a.m. at Phoenix Municipal Court.

Phoenix police said the right side of the boy's face was severely bitten by a dog in the area of Central and Riverside.

The Maricopa Medical Center said it has seen three dog bite cases in the last month.

Doctors at the center say with bites that severe, head right to the emergency room.

Trauma Medical Director Dr. Jeffery Salomone said bites can happen with all breeds of dogs.

Last year, there were 13,000 dog bite cases.
