LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The following streets will be affected due to construction of the downtown and east end bridges the week of February 24.

Work Currently Underway Downtown Crossing:

Louisville Streets:

  • Floyd Street from Liberty Street to Muhammad Ali Boulevard is scheduled to be closed through Friday, February 21 for abutment work.
  • Adams Street from Campbell Street to Cabel Street is scheduled to be closed through Monday, March 3, with access to local traffic only.
  • Witherspoon Street from Preston Street to Clay Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, March 1 for micropiling.
  • Jackson Street from Jefferson Street to Market Street is scheduled to be closed through Monday, February 24 for work on a retaining wall.
  • The right lane of westbound Witherspoon Street from River Road to Adams Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, March 1 for work on a retaining wall.
  • The right lane and right parking lane on Preston Street from Market Street to Liberty Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, March 1 for abutment work.
  • The left lane and both parking lanes on Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Preston Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, March 1 for abutment work.
  • The right lane and left lane of Liberty Street from Floyd Street to Preston Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, March 1 for piling and abutment work.

Kentucky Side:

Work scheduled to begin Monday, February 24:

  • One lane of the ramp from I-64 West to I-65 South is scheduled to close overnight Monday, February 24 to set beams. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.
  • The entrance ramp from Story Avenue to I-64 West is scheduled to close overnight Monday, February 24-Wednesday, February 26 to install panels. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.
  • One lane of I-64 West from Mellwood Avenue to the I-65 exit ramp is scheduled to close overnight Monday, February 24-Wednesday, February 26 to install panels. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

Work scheduled to begin Tuesday, February 25:

  • The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, February 25-Friday, February 28 to set beams and install panels. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.

Work scheduled to begin Wednesday, February 26:

  • One lane of I-64 East from 9th Street to I-65 is scheduled to close overnight Wednesday, February 26-Friday, February 28 to set beams and install panels. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

Work scheduled for Thursday, February 27:

  • Rolling closures are expected project-wide Thursday, February 27 for pothole patching. Work is scheduled 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Louisville Streets:

Work scheduled to begin Monday, February 24:

  • The left lane of Jackson Street from Jefferson Street to Market Street is scheduled to be closed Monday, February 24-Saturday, March 1 for work in the area.

Continuing Closures and Restrictions:

Kentucky Side:

  • The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through the spring of 2016.
  • The right lane of I-65 South from the Jefferson Street ramp to Muhammad Ali Boulevard closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through 2016.

Indiana Side:

  • Broadway Street has closed from Court Avenue to 6th Street. This includes the closure of the 6th Street ramp to I-65 North. These are permanent closures.
  • 7th Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street. This is a permanent closure.
  • VFW Boulevard has closed from 7th Street to 9th Street. This is a permanent closure.
  • US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes.
  • US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane. Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street.
  • The northbound collector distributor ramp in Jeffersonville has been reduced to one lane between 10th Street and Stansifer Avenue. The closure will be in place through late 2015.
  • Missouri Avenue is closed between Court Avenue and S. Clark Boulevard for extensive utility work in the area. It's expected to remain closed into July 2014.

Sidewalk Closures

The following sidewalk closures are expected in downtown Louisville in connection with construction on the Downtown Crossing:

  • Sidewalks on Jackson Street from Jefferson Street to Market Street are expected to be closed through Saturday, March 1.
  • The sidewalk on the north side of Witherspoon Street from Preston Street to Clay Street is expected to be closed through Saturday, March 1.
  • The north sidewalk on Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Preston Street is expected to be closed through Saturday, March 1.
  • The sidewalk on the east side of Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street is expected to be closed through Saturday, March 1.
  • Sidewalks on Floyd Street from Liberty Street to Muhammad Ali Boulevard are expected to be closed through Saturday, March 1.
  • The south sidewalk on Liberty Street from Floyd Street to Jackson Street is expected to be closed through Saturday, March 1.

East End Crossing:

Indiana: Lane restrictions on SR 62 Feb. 25 – 28

There will be lane restrictions on SR 62 in Indiana in the vicinity of the SR 265 and SR 62 interchange Feb. 25-28. The lane restrictions will be in place for about a half mile in each direction of the interchange. Residents are asked to use caution and drive slowly when driving in the area during this time.

Indiana: Road closures on Boulder Ct. and Wood Creek Way beginning March 14

 Boulder Court and Wood Creek Way will be closed beginning Friday, March 14 and will likely continue for the duration of the construction project. Wood Creek Way will be closed at the intersection of Boulder Court to the edge of the construction area. Residents who used Boulder Court to access their homes will be able to use Boulder Ridge Drive.

Indiana: Blasting schedule for week of Feb. 24

Blasting to prepare for the East End Crossing is scheduled to occur in Indiana, just east of Utica, between the Ohio River and Salem Road during the week of February 24. There will NOT be any traffic stops for this blast.

The dates and approximate times (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Tuesday, February 25, at about 4 p.m.
  • Wednesday, February 26, at about 4 p.m.
  • Thursday, February 27, at about 4 p.m.
  • Friday, February 28, at about 4 p.m.

Kentucky: Blasting schedule for week of Feb. 24

Blasting to prepare for the new tunnel in the east end of Louisville is scheduled to occur near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841 during the week of February 24.

Tunnel Blasting: Underground tunnel blasting, which began Jan. 27, 2014, in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841, does NOT require traffic stops. This blasting takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. The noise from blasts may be noticeable, but the blasts pose no risk to the traveling public and local residents. Construction for the underground tunnel requires 24-hour work activities Monday through Saturday, and will continue throughout 2014.

The dates and approximate times for tunnel blasting the week of Feb. 24 will be:

  • Tuesday, February 25, at about 7:30 a.m. and again at about 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday, February 26, at about 7:30 a.m. and again at about 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, February 27, at about 7:30 a.m. and again at about 6 p.m.
  • Friday, February 28, at about 7:30 a.m. and again at about 6 p.m.

Surface Blasting: Surface blasting, which began in June 2013, does require traffic stops. Surface blasting also takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on KY 841 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and U.S. 42, and on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Bridgepointe Boulevard. In the event of unfavorable weather or other unforeseen activities, blast times may occasionally change.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) the week of Feb. 24 will be:

  • Tuesday, February 25, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:15 p.m.
  • Wednesday, February 26, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:15 p.m.
  • Thursday, February 27, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:15 p.m.
  • Friday, February 28, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:15 p.m.
  • Saturday, February 29, at about 12 p.m. noon

Kentucky: Temporary traffic stops on River Rd.

Temporary traffic stops are required on River Road in Kentucky in the area between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Timber Ridge to allow construction trucks to safely access River Road. The temporary stops began on Feb. 1 and will last as long as construction operations require it. Flaggers will be present to temporarily stop and guide traffic through this area. Residents are asked to use caution and drive slowly when driving in the area during this time.
