ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - We're continuing our local March 4th primary coverage with the Angelina County Commissioner Precinct 1 race.
Incumbent Steve Allen, Greg Harrison and Kyle Looney are all on the ticket.
Angelina County Precinct 1 covers about 100 miles of road and encompasses all of Hudson and the Central area.
Incumbent Steve Allen was appointed to the position about 10-months ago after commissioner Rick Harrison died.
"I just think I'm experienced for the job really and a good candidate," said Allen.
Allen worked for TxDOT for 30 years and feels that background is valuable to the job.
Allen said, "Because of the experience I have working with TxDOT and serving the citizens of precinct one and see if I can make it better for us for the precinct."
Greg Harrison is running for the seat his brother Rick occupied for 12 years.
"I've always been intrigued with this job and I feel like I could do a good job at this position," said Harrison.
Harrison believes his 15 years of business experience and his people skills will be a wining combination.
"Precinct 1 is where I've lived all my life. I know lots of folks out here and they know me and they know if there's anything I can do to help them. I'll be more than happy to," said Harrison. "I promise you I'll do the best job I can do with what we have to do with."
This is Kyle Looney's second time to run for county commissioner. He ran for the first time in 2012.
"I feel like I would be a good candidate for them that I'll be a good commissioner," said Looney.
Looney feels his 25 years of experience in the construction business will come in handy if he's elected.
"I have the ability to manage money to work with in a budget. We've reached the point where we need to find a better way. We need to make more improvements and we need to bring these roads up to a certain standard and then start maintaining that standard," said Looney.
You can cast your vote for the local and state races early until Friday in Lufkin, Diboll, Zavalla and Huntington.
